WHEN ROSES WERE RED

When roses were red
And the violets purple
Life was all bloom
Ecstasy was at its zenith
And tranquil was vast.

When the sky was blue
With light clouds beneath
The land was green
Strewn with budding leaves
And flowers of their kind

But now the roses are variegated
And the once bright sun
Is but a dying ember
The sky is dark
And the light clouds;gone

The good life
The grins and ecstasy
The green land
And the budding leaves
Are now but shadows of the past

There is no serenity
No tranquility
Only dark smog
And clashing machetes
Only war and mayhem
