YOU NEVER MISS THE WATERS....

                                                                               3-10-2018
They who say, have for times not few, alluded to the truism of the old adage that the waters are never missed till the well runs dry. It was not until just recently that a majority of the Kenyan citizenry acknowledged the paramountcy of a long standing and credibly viable opposition in the country.

I was far beyond profound shock and amazement when last week I saw the very same people who presumablypresumably- per the status quo of course- vehemently shunned the idea of an Odinga presidency crying foul at his decision to close ranks with his political arch rival- President Uhuru Kenyatta. So hypocritical was their lambaste against the former premier that I could not help but openly showcase my scorn at them.

A little latitude perhaps, to unleash some erudition on matters constitution and governance structures of Kenya. The 2010 Kenyan constitution in its entirety, aborted the idea of a parliamentary system in favour of the current presidential system. Among many other structures that didn't sail through as envisaged by the Bomas draft was the office of the official leader of opposition. Last minute drawbacks by the ODM troupe saw to it that this was effected. The ghosts of that uninformed decision have come forth to haunt us.

Raila's abrupt change of tact in perpetuating his course left the de facto opposition wallowing in an unprecedented deplorable confusion owing to the allusion that he was the undisputable doyen of opposition politics. Kenyans all over the country are now jittery due to the compulsive looting in government and irregular price hikes with no voice to air their tribulations.

The remnant principals of the moribund NASA coalition are now nothing more than a bunch of clueless politicians struggling to remain relevant in the political pitch. Their ineptness in keeping the government in check has been evident ever since Raila toned down. Their determination to wholly serve the people of Kenya is debatable at the moment. Power is all they are after.

Our current constitution, which we ourselves votes for, compels no one to legally take up the opposition mantle. It is only personal volition and empathy for theKenyans that prompted Ho. Raila Odinga to endure at the helm of opposition in Kenya. His efforts to endlessly fight for Kenyan people are immeasurable. It would therefore be not only unfair but also uncouth of us to critique and lambaste a man who, throughout his career, has endeavoured to achieve nothing short of bliss for his constituents.

The route may have changed but the journey still continues and our destiny remains unmoved.
